C’ville sitter still free on bond despite DUI arrest

An unlicensed Carpentersville baby sitter facing charges of involuntary manslaughter for leaving an infant under a blanket for five hours in 2009 will remain free on bond despite a recent driving under the influence arrest in which her blood-alcohol concentration was nearly 2½ times the legal limit.

Kane County Judge Timothy Sheldon denied a request Friday to revoke the bond of Deanna Williams, 45, of the 3800 block of Parsons Road.

Assistant State’s Attorney Pam Monaco pointed to Williams’ arrest on Nov. 21 for drunken driving in which she crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed through a fence onto a golf course in West Dundee.

Williams also was cited for improper lane use and failure to reduce speed. Her Blood alcohol content was 0.193 percent, and she admitted to drinking two to three Long Island iced teas beforehand and taking psychotropic drugs, according to court documents.

Williams was indicted in November 2009 for the April 22, 2009, death of 8-month-old Sparsh Dhar. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter for leaving the infant in a blanket near a window for five hours while she drove her teen daughter to and from track practice.

The baby died of hyperthermia; Williams faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

A trial date has been set for May 31.

Defense attorney Jacqueline Aldrich argued before Sheldon that revoking Williams’ bond could hurt her and her family.

Aldrich noted that Williams is going to counseling, is going through a divorce and is needed by her two kids, a 15-year-old daugther and 9-year-old son.

Aldrich also said Williams has attended every court date so far while free on $5,000 bond and could be a possible organ donor for her sister, who needs a liver transplant.

Sheldon ordered Williams to report weekly to the county’s court services department, but she does not have to submit to drug or alcohol testing there.
