Application deadline near for Minn. Fringe Fest

MINNEAPOLIS — Time is running out for producers who want to enter shows in the 2011 Minnesota Fringe Festival.

Applications must be received at the Fringe office in Minneapolis by 5 p.m. Central Time Friday, Jan. 28. That deadline is strict.

Since anyone can enter and so many applications are received, the Fringe holds a lottery using Ping-Pong balls to determine who gets in. There is a twist to this year's lottery — there will be three lotteries, based on venue seating capacity, small, medium and large. Those lotteries will be held Feb. 7.

The Fringe features everything from musicals to spoken word performances to kids' shows, playing at various venues. This year's Fringe runs from Aug. 4 through Aug. 14.
