Highland speech team honored at festival

Highland Middle School's speech team performed well during the recent eighth annual Lakeside Conference Speech and Drama Festival at Highland Middle School in Libertyville.

The Highland Middle School speech club members were awarded first-, second- and third-place ribbons, according to teacher Sara Raymond.

Libertyville students performed memorized dramatic readings, speeches, poetry and prose. Students from Lake Bluff, Lake Forest and Oak Grove competed in the festival.

Priya Varghese coached the eighth-grade students. Members included Samantha Kenzer, Anmol Shah and Hannah Lampinen.

The seventh-grade club, sponsored by Sara Raymond, included Hannah Loizzo, Julia Thurau, Hannah Hartung, Hannah Zerwas, Hadley Van DerBosch, Ken Wu, Jake Stueckemann, Elliott Stahnke and Jackie Ovassapian.

The sixth-grade team, sponsored by Ann Livermore, included Jenna El Ghatit, Sabrina Kite, Amelia Lutz, Annika McDermitt, Dylan McKernan, Daniel Oh, Logan Archibald, Sam Holloway, Grant Spaulding, Deborah Hannigan and Ryan Bogan.
