Elgin man found with crack during traffic stop
Carpentersville police say they arrested a 23-year-old Elgin man during a traffic stop on charges he had cocaine and had plans to sell it.
William M. Ingram, of the 0-99 block of Poplar Creek Drive, appeared in bond court Thursday facing felony charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
If convicted of the first charge, a Class 1 Felony, Ingram could face up to 15 years in prison.
Ingram was pulled over by Carpentersville police for crossing the center line just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Route 25 and Northlake Parkway. He received tickets for the improper lane usage as well as for driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
Police found crack cocaine in Ingram’s possession during the traffic stop and determined he had the substance with the intent to deliver, police said.
Ingram’s bail was set at $50,000 Thursday. He must pay $5,000 to be released before his next court appearance at 9 a.m. Feb. 2 at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
