Burglar poisons fish in Arlington Heights

Burglarizing an Arlington Heights apartment was apparently not enough for a thief who also decided to poison the residents' goldfish.

The front door of an apartment on the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road was pried open sometime between Saturday afternoon and 1 p.m. Monday, and a video game system, CD player, 30 video games, 30 DVDs, a BB gun, jewelry and a safe with personal items were all taken, according to police.

When the residents returned home Monday, they found hot sauce, mustard, ketchup and spices had been poured into their fish tank and three goldfish floating at the top, police said.

The robbery remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-STOP.
