Show highlights

Ÿ More than 600 booths throughout the 30,000-square-foot exhibit space

Ÿ Many activities for children are free and hands-on, such as casting with the pros from Trout Unlimited, or paddling a kayak in the 100,000-gallon “lake” created inside the convention center.

Ÿ High school bass fishing teams will compete in casting for accuracy.

Ÿ Hunting dogs will demonstrate their obedience training.

More than 200 seminars are scheduled. Bass Pro fisherman Kevin VanDam heads a lineup of speakers that include Babe Winkelman, Al Lindner, Jim Lindner, Spence Petros, Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, Ted Takasaki, and Darrell Baker, a hunting and fishing guide from Antioch.

Retailers, exhibitors

Ÿ Show room displays will feature thousands of fishing rods, lures and tackles, as well as the newest reels, fish locaters and trolling motors, all explained by their manufacturers.

Ÿ Everything from boats to camping and hunting accessors.

Ÿ Retailers such as Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops will offer a variety of fishing and camping gear, and even ATVs.

Ÿ More than 100 outfitters on hand to book trips.

Ÿ Cooking demonstrations, outdoor recipes and tastings.

Ÿ Dangerous reptiles show

The quote: “Our big emphasis will be on water sports and boats, but we’re not losing focus of our bread and butter, which is fishing and hunting,” says show director Jim Grandt, an Arlington Heights resident and custom fishing rod designer.
