Don't try Bianchi — or pay for it

The McHenry County Board has agreed to pay $221,476 for legal services provided by a special prosecutor.

It is my understanding that an appellate prosecutor was already available to the county at no additional cost, but was rejected by the local court.

State's Attorney Lou Bianchi and his secretary, Joyce Synek, are paying their own, very likely, significant legal bills to defend themselves in this atrocity. God help you if you ever become the target of a phony misdirected investigation and suffer the financial, emotional, and physical toll it must be taking on these good people.

This so-called “investigation” is a political war financed by the taxpayers, with the basis being simply that State's Attorney Bianchi and his office have been doing too good a job to suit some people.

Taxpayers are presently on the hook for over $220,000; if the case goes to trial, the total bill will likely exceed $500,000, which will come from the pockets of families, many of whom have lost their jobs and health insurance and have homes in foreclosure, and from businesses that are suffering.

We can only hope that our county board will take whatever steps are needed to right this terrible wrong and give us a reason to re-elect them. There are good people in office; we need to stand behind them.
