Arlington bank urges teens to apply for scholarship
The Peoples’ Bank of Arlington Heights is reminding local high school seniors that the deadline to apply for the Community Bankers Association of Illinois Foundation‘s 2011 Scholarship Program is approaching.
Entries are due to the bank no later than Monday, Feb. 7. One winner from this region of the state will win a $1,000 scholarship and will be eligible for renewal for four years if selected as the overall state winner.
Applications and information can be picked up from Peoples’ Bank locations at 41 S. Vail Ave. 1104 S. Arlington Heights Road. Local high school college counselor offices have materials available as well. Along with the application form, the students must submit a brief essay on the topic “How does a community bank help a community to grow?”
Harland C. Krebel Jr., retail banking officer for The Peoples’ Bank has extended an invitation to local students to work directly with the bank to prepare their materials.
“We are happy to spend time with the students showing them what a community bank does and how it serves as an important part of the overall community.” Krebel said that students may contact him at (847) 670-0909 for information on arranging a visit to the bank.
Essays and applications must be received by the bank before Monday, Feb. 7. The bank will then submit entries to the association for judging. One winner from each of 13 regions throughout Illinois will be selected for the $1,000 regional award, with one of them chosen as the overall winner which will make them eligible to have their $1,000 scholarship renewed for up to four years. The total amount of scholarships awarded will equal $16,500 as the winner will also receive a $500 award for their school.
“We would like nothing more than to sponsor the winner for this region” said Krebel. “This is a nice opportunity for a local student to secure some additional funds for their education.”
