Fire alarm systems must tie to DuComm

The Lombard Village Board recently amended an ordinance which requires all new and existing fire alarm systems to be supervised by and tied directly to the Village of Lombard Communications Center, known as DuPage Communications/DuComm.

“The passing of this ordinance will present the safest and most efficient manner in which the first alarm signal will be transmitted and acknowledged at Lombard Communications Center/DuComm,” said Chuck Riforgiate, Lombard Fire Marshal.

Direct communication of the fire alarm signal to the dispatch center has been credited with reducing emergency response times, according to Riforgiate.

“The amended ordinance will not only afford the fire department better oversight capabilities regarding fire alarm status but will also provide early notification when alarm problems arise,” he added.

The ordinance change also paves the way for the village to convert its current alarm system from the dedicated phone line connection to its own wireless radio network, which is scheduled for the future.
