Wheeling Police Department loses power, operates on generator
Parts of the Wheeling Police Department are operating on a backup generator after the building lost power about midnight, according to Deputy Chief John Teevans.
“Some rooms in the building don’t have all the lights on, but the building is functioning and we’re hoping to have everything up and running soon,” he said.
The cause of the outage is unknown, but the building at 255 W. Dundee Road does have some wires that date back to the 1970s, he said.
“All we know now is that one of the wires under the building is corrupted,” Teevans added.
Wheeling’s public works employees hope to have full power restored later tonight.
“We’re really thankful to the public works guys who were out here immediately to access the situation,” Teevans said.
