Lombard firefighter injured during house fire
A Lombard firefighter was injured during a house fire Tuesday that caused about $80,000 damage, authorities said.
The call came in to the Lombard Fire Department at 3:26 p.m. from the 300 block of North Stewart Avenue on the village's north side, Chief Mike Torrence said.
The first firefighters on the scene found light smoke coming from the rear of the house and found the living room and a hallway involved in fire, according to fire officials.
One person was home and was able to escape unharmed when the blaze began in a rear bedroom of the ranch brick house, Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik said,
One Lombard firefighter was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for an undisclosed injury, where he was treated and released.
The fire extended into the home's attic, but crews extinguished it quickly resulting in minor damage.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire in approximately 20 minutes, but investigators remained on the scene for about two hours trying to determine the cause of the blaze, Torrence said.
Lombard Fire crews were assisted by Downers Grove and Oak Brook departments.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Tuesday.
