Lakes nets some revenge

Lakes' girls basketball team exacted some revenge Monday night.

The Eagles defeated visiting Grayslake North 58-42, avenging their loss in Woodstock's holiday tournament.

Lakes (8-14) led by 4 at halftime and then outscored Grayslake North (6-16) 16-3 in the third quarter.

Lakes had nine players get into the scoring column, with Terese McMahon and Ashley Parmly both posting double-doubles. McMahon had 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Parmly totaled 13 points and 16 rebounds. Ashlee Cunningham added 12 points and 6 rebounds.

"We controlled the rebounding edge and worked for many offensive boards," Eagles coach Pete Schneider said.

"Mary Doupis, Nicole Mogged and Evan Morris played great defense. We needed to come out and play hard from the start and the team responded to the challenge."

It was the second straight win for Lakes, which ended Antioch's 10-game winning streak Saturday.

"The ladies are seeing each other well on the offensive end of the court," Schneider said. "We have definitely raised our level of basketball IQ and are minimizing out turnovers. We have been working on some situational stuff in practice and I think the kids are getting it."

Brianna Leon and Katie McGrath led Grayslake North with 9 and 8 points, respectively.

"Jim Sarver does a great job having his kids up and playing," Schneider said of the Knights coach. "You need to match their intensity and get them out of their game."

Carmel 63, Waukegan 37: Jackie Meier scored 18 points and Sarah McHugh added 15, as the Corsairs won the nonconference game.

Carmel (13-8) has won four in a row.
