The skinny: Now comes the time for interdivisional play in the Mid-American Conference, which means the Huskies’ next six games are against the superior East division. Akron was supposed to be an East contender, but coach Keith Dambrot complains that his team has been too inconsistent. Senior Brett McKnight was supposed to be the Zips’ best player, but he’s averaging just 9.8 ppg and 2.7 rpg. Sophomore center Zeke Marshall (9.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.4 bpg) was a Top 100 recruit, but he’s still learning how to play. NIU junior forward Tim Toler, the junior-college recruit, has found his first spin around the MAC to his liking. He has scored in double figures in all five league games and averages 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2 assists. That keeps opponents from devoting so much effort against Xavier Silas (23.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg).
