Wheeling man charged with fifth DUI
If a 31-year-old Wheeling man charged with his fifth DUI is convicted, he will face four to 15 years in prison.
A Cook County judge set bail at $100,000 Monday for Agustin Teran, of the 800 block of Mark Lane, following his latest arrest for driving while intoxicated.
A Wheeling police officer stopped Teran for traffic violations on Saturday and noticed a strong smell of alcohol.
Teran failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a Breathalyzer test, said prosecutors during Teran’s bond hearing in Rolling Meadows.
Probation will not be available to Teran because of his previous arrests, prosecutors said. They include a 1998 DUI conviction followed by convictions on the same charge in 2001, 2002 and 2005. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the 2005 conviction.
Teran was also convicted three times of driving on a revoked or suspended license — twice in 2002 and again in 2004, for which he was sentenced to one year in prison.
If convicted of a fifth DUI, Teran faces mandatory prison time. His prior convictions make him ineligible for probation, prosecutors said.
Teran next appears in court on Feb. 9.
