Two charged in ‘Operation Cookie Jar’

Two suburban men were charged with felonies as part of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez’s ongoing “Operation Cookie Jar” campaign against public corruption.

Edmund Jones, 29, of the 2000 block of Fox Point Circle in Aurora, was charged with theft of government property and official misconduct for allegedly skimming $9,000 from a program to buy back textbooks at Chicago’s Marshall High School, where he previously served as a teacher and chairman of the history department.

Jeffrey Flinchum, 25, of the 9300 block of Monroe Avenue in Brookfield, was charged with the same crimes for allegedly using public funds to buy equipment for his personal vehicle while a parts manager for the Cook County Highway Department. He no longer works there, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Bail was set at $25,000 for Jones, $5,000 for Flinchum, and both were assigned court dates of Feb. 9.
