Aurora eyes boost in liquor license fee

The cost of Aurora’s newest classification of liquor license is likely to go up this week.

Aldermen on Tuesday are expected to approve an increase in the price of the license that allows restaurants to sell packaged beer or wine for consumption off site.

If approved, the annual fee for the license for the sale of packaged beer and wine will rise to $2,000 from $1,815, according to a city memo.

The license was created in June as a subcategory of the license that allows restaurants to sell beer and wine for consumption on the premises, city spokesman Kevin Stahr said. Fourteen Aurora establishments are eligible to apply for the new licenses, he said.

Annual fees for all other types of Aurora liquor licenses — which were last changed in 1993 — are expected to remain the same, Stahr said.
