Senior housing eyed for Batavia

A developer wants to build a 100-unit senior-citizen housing complex along West Main Street Batavia that is designated for commercial and office use.

The city services committee will discuss the request from DKI Real Estate and Investments at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.

The project would be on land the city calls the Irongate property, on the northeast corner of Main and Deerpath Road.

DKI would like to obtain tax credits for the project, but to do so would have to show the Illinois Housing Development Authority the land is zoned to permit the project.

The firm anticipates building 20 units per acre. The proposed new zoning is multifamily high density.

In other business, the committee will also discuss the status of a proposed annexation agreement with Moose International for land along Randall Road. The organization wishes to develop several hundred acres of farmland into homes, offices, stores, a park and more.

And the committee will review an application for a $25,000 downtown improvement grant for 103 N. River St. Owner Fred Martinez proposes to use the money to remodel the third floor into two apartments. The building’s first floor houses El Taco Grande restaurant.
