On TV: The return of Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert returns to the TV movie-review business as a producer with the debut of “Ebert Presents at the Movies” at 8:30 p.m. today on WTTW Channel 11. Shot at Channel 11's North Side Chicago studios, it features hosts Christy Lemire and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky. They'll start with a look back at 2010 in films, and also introduce a regular segment by Ebert himself.

Hold the ‘Onion'

The Onion newspaper lampoon continues its expansion into TV with the debut of the “Onion News Network” at 9 p.m. today on the Independent Film Channel. Even better, however, is the new six-episode IFC sitcom “Portlandia,” created by and starring Fred Armisen of “Saturday Night Live” and former Sleater-Kinney singer-guitarist Carrie Brownstein. They look askance at the hippy-dippy charms of the Pacific Northwest. It follows “Onion News Network” at 9:30.

Never too much Bears

Comcast SportsNet Chicago plans to do a Bear postgame show win or lose at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, following their NFC Championship game against — you might have already heard this — the Green Bay Packers at 2 p.m. on Fox WFLD Channel 32. Should the Bears win, CSNC will also rerun it at 3 p.m. Monday, followed by a live “Bears Recap” at 4:30, to be rerun at 11.

Waste Watcher: The real ‘Scarface'

Stuff Brian De Palma's cocaine-powered “Scarface” with Al Pacino. The original “Scarface” was shot in 1932 by Howard Hawks, with Paul Muni as a lead character modeled, of course, on our own Al Capone. The opening tracking shot alone is worth tuning in for. It's at 8:30 p.m. today on Turner Classic Movies, immediately followed at 10:15 by Edward G. Robinson's “Little Caesar.”

Paul Muni gets tough as “Scarface.”
