Move over Lee DeWyze?
American Idol bloggers are all abuzz about Haley Reinhart — a Wheeling High School grad who reportedly makes it to the show’s top 40 contestants.
The show’s 10th season kicked off this week with a two-hour season premiere Wednesday night, featuring New Jersey auditions. Thursday night spotlighted New Orleans hopefuls.
For the next two weeks, Idol will feature open auditions from Austin, Tex., Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Nashville, Tenn., and San Francisco before the show’s new panel of judges — Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
Whether or not Reinhart makes the cut remains to be seen. She does have a long way to go, according to EW.com, the website for magazine Entertainment Weekly.
“Of the 325 contestants who made it to Hollywood week, 60 were flown to Las Vegas in December to sing Beatles songs on the same stage at the Las Vegas Mirage that Cirque du Soleil performs LOVE,” the magazine reports. “That round knocked the talent pool down to 40; yet another round in Hollywood will narrow the contestants down to 20 singers, and only then will America vote in a single sudden death round that will select the Idol finalists. Whether there’s a Top 12 or a Top 10 has yet to be announced.”
The good news? Idol has aired a promo featuring Reinhart, which makes it more likely she’ll make it to the live voting rounds. Sharp-eyed viewers may also have spotted her Thursday night in a teaser for Wednesday night’s Milwaukee auditions.
So good luck, Haley. Now get working on your back story. That whole “former paint store clerk” thing worked pretty well for a certain someone.
