Bowhunter bags big buck

Put aside your football allegiances for a moment and admire a new bowhunting standard.

A whitetail deer killed in November by bowhunter Brian Inda of Wautoma, Wis., is officially the state's archery record. It measured 187-5/8 inches, 3/8 of an inch more than a buck killed in Dunn County in 2006.

Fishing report:

In the ice department, area anglers continue to enjoy excellent ice conditions with fairly good catches.

Fox Chain: One of the better bets for walleye continues to be Petite Lake, especially after the sun sets. As I've reported in past weeks, the 12- to 18-foot depth seems to be the magic location for decent walleye action. Crappie activity is good just before sunrise on Lake Marie.

Lake Michigan: A few steelhead are being caught in Jackson Park, while perching continues for ice-bound anglers working the Chicago harbors.
