Police investigating Gurnee tollway crash
Illinois State Police investigators are trying to piece together the chain of events that led to a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle Monday morning in Gurnee, officials said.
Master Sgt. S. Legrand said only the truck driver was injured in the wreck that was reported at 9:45 a.m.
Legrand said the man in his mid-30s, who he declined to immediately identify, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The driver was in serious but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the tractor-trailer, which may have been carrying fly ash or dry concrete, flipped over into the guardrail dividing the Tri-State’s lanes near Grand Avenue. Investigators were trying to determine what caused the crash.
Two left lanes on the southbound side where the wreck occurred were closed immediately after the crash but later reopened.
Legrand said the woman in her 30s who was in the car was not injured and drove away after the collision.
No tickets were issued to either driver as of Monday, officials said.
