Man arrested with drugs near Antioch school

A 33-year-old Zion man has been arrested and charged with trying to sell or deliver drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, Antioch police officials said Tuesday.

Courtney Boyd, was arrested following a traffic stop on Jan. 14 at Hillside and Orchard streets, near St. Peter's School. During the traffic stop, police found Boyd was in possession of heroin and crack cocaine, with each individually packaged to sell, police Chief Craig Somerville said.

Police said Boyd is a documented gang member with an extensive criminal history. He was charged two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and a single count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a school.

If found guilty of the most serious charge, Boyd could spend up to 30 years behind bars, Somerville said.

Boyd remains in Lake County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond, of which 10 percent must be posted for him to leave.
