Chicago man sentence to 8 years for 2009 computer theft
A 46-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to eight years in prison after he admitted stealing five laptop computers and a projector worth about $5,800 from a Hoffman Estates educational services company in November 2009.
Albert Henderson will receive credit for seven months he has been in custody since his June 2010 arrest.
The court recommended Henderson, who has a 2006 burglary conviction, undergo drug treatment as a condition of his sentence.
Police identified the defendant from a surveillance video taken from the business, prosecutors said. Additionally, Henderson told police he sold the laptops for $150 each.
Burglary is a class two felony which typically carries a sentence range of three to seven years. However, Henderson was sentenced as a class X offender, which made him eligible for the extended term, prosecutors said.
