Lake Forest plans MLK event
Lake Forest College will host author Bryant K. Smith in a program called “Dr. King Speaks to Hip Hop” at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17.
Smith will speak about four areas addressed by both Dr. King and Hip Hop artists. The program, held in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel, also will feature the Lake Forest College Choir with the return of The Voices of Inner Peace Gospel Choir.
Bryant is the author of a social commentary on race relations in the United States entitled “Black Not Blind,” a book about the power of human potential entitled “5,” and “M.A.N.-U.P., How to Coach a Male into Manhood.”
In addition, the Office of Intercultural Relations, in collaboration with the Mohr Student Center Committee, presents the Martin Luther King, Jr. History Exhibit in the Mohr Student Center foyer. Participants can view transcripts of Dr. King’s speeches that helped fuel his activism, hear original recordings of his speeches and learn pertinent biographical information about Dr. King’s life and enduring legacy.
The exhibit and program are both open to the public and free. Lake Forest College is located at 555 N. Sheridan Road in Lake Forest. More information is available at lakeforest.edu.
