Device on train not a threat
Glen Ellyn police said Friday that a suspicious device found on a Metra train late that afternoon proved to be no threat.
About 4:30 p.m. the device was discovered in a restroom on a westbound Metra train. A passenger noticed the device and reported it to the conductor, police said. By this time the train had stopped at the Glen Ellyn depot.
Police said they were then notified by Metra. The train was then evacuated, and all train traffic on the line was stopped.
Police called a local bus company, First Student, and several buses were dispatched for passengers to board and keep warm.
The DuPage County bomb squad also responded and later determined the device not to be an explosive or biological threat.
The device was removed from the train about 6 p.m. The train was moved to a rail yard, and passengers began boarding other westbound trains shortly thereafter.
