Naperville's talent show hits stage

In Naperville, having some special talent can benefit others.

That's the idea behind the first Naperville's Got Talent! Showcase at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Neuqua Valley High School auditorium, 2360 95th St.

There's no $1 million prize, like similar nationally televised shows, but money raised through ticket sales will go to local charities.

“Everybody wins because we're hopefully making a meaningful contribution to very worthwhile causes,” said Dan Richardson, a member of the Rotary Club of Naperville South and the event's chairman.

Roughly 60 acts auditioned for the program and 18 will take the stage in a two-and-a-half hour show, Richardson said.

The acts, featuring performers ranging from preteen to 50 years old, will include dance groups, bands, magicians and more.

The event is billed as a showcase of talent, meaning that while the participants auditioned, they will not be judged the night of the contest.

“(Saturday's performers) are like the ones that made it to Los Angeles,” said Gary Olson, president-elect of the Rotary Club of Naperville South. “The point is just to have a talent show and raise money. We don't want anybody going away feeling bad. We just want to give them a chance to perform.”

It's a unique event from an organizational standpoint. Three generations of Rotarians joined forces — the high school-aged Interact Club of Neuqua Valley, the college-aged Rotaract Club of North Central College and the Rotary Club of Naperville South.

People of all ages can appreciate and enjoy this showcase, organizers say.

“I think people are going to be very impressed by the show,” Olson said.

Proceeds benefit Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry, DuPage PADS and other local charities.

Tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com for $10 or in person at Fry Family YMCA on 95th Street or at Republic Bank on Route 59 at 111th Street.
