Quinn sports 'the' tie to inauguration

Some people have lucky pennies, lucky rabbits' feet or even lucky socks.

Gov. Pat Quinn, it seems, has a lucky tie.

Quinn's purple and navy diagonally striped rep tie, worn during Monday's inauguration ceremony, has made its share of appearances throughout the election cycle.

Quinn wore the tie throughout the primary, including on ABC7's Jan. 26 debate with Comptroller Dan Hynes. He wore it the next week, at his election night party.

Running against state Sen. Bill Brady in the general election, Quinn wore it for each and every public debate — beginning with the Sept. 30 Union League Club debate in Chicago. He also donned it Oct. 26 at the Palmer House Hilton for a Democratic Party rally, and on election night.

The Daily Herald asked about the tie during the summer of 2009. A spokeswoman with the governor's press office said Quinn bought the tie at a New York City shop several years ago. He liked it so much that he went back the next day and bought a second. The governor, a Hinsdale native, is renowned for his frugality.
