Special education forum on Jan. 20

"Transition in Illinois; What it is and What it is not!" will be presented by Debbie Buelow from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 20 at Barrington Area Public Library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy.

If you have a child or student nearing the age of transition for special needs students in Illinois (14), or if you are wanting to think ahead, you will be interested in this free meeting. Debbie Buelow will discuss our state's legislation regarding transition, where it came from, what it requires, and what to expect in the transition process.

Buelow worked for 32 years as a Principal Program Consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education. In that role, she was highly involved with developing special education regulations in our state. Further, she has worked with the Department of Special Education as an agency monitor, as a complaint investigator, and has had responsibility to both approve and monitor schools for students with disabilities. In the last eight years, she has had her own consulting practice working closely with two therapeutic schools and providing consultation to 19 charter schools in Chicago.
