Lake Co. man faces pot charges

A Winthrop Harbor man faces drug charges after walking into a police station with a bag of cannabis and a cannabis pipe, police said.

Timothy G. Larsen, 25, of Winthrop Harbor, was released from Lake County jail after posting 10 percent of $20,000 bail. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Lake County court, said Det. Chris Willets of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department.

In addition, he was ticketed on a local ordinance violation for unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Willets said Larsen entered the Winthrop Harbor police station at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, to pick up a set of keys for his sister's car. His sister, Tiffany Larsen, 23, of Winthrop Harbor, was arrested by police earlier that morning on an outstanding warrant and had been taken to the Lake County jail, Willets said.

Police discovered Timothy Larsen also was wanted on a 2009 warrant for failure to appear in court. Larsen was arrested inside the lobby of the police department and taken to a booking room where he was searched.

During the search, officers discovered a small plastic bag of cannabis and the cannabis pipe. Court information on the drug charges was not immediately available, police said.
