Health care trade show coming back to Chicago
Chicago has won back a major health care trade show expected to draw about 30,000 attendees and generate an estimated $33 million in direct spending.
Mayor Richard Daley says the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society plans to hold its meeting in Chicago in 2015 and 2019.
The group had pulled its 2012 convention out of the city citing high costs. The trade show plans to meet to Las Vegas that year.
Officials of the health care organization credit the Illinois Legislature with changing work rules that will mean lower labor costs at Chicago's McCormick Place.
Last year, Illinois lawmakers cut labor costs by allowing exhibitors to do their own setup, use outside electricians, and bring in their own food.
