Your news: Computer classes for seniors

The 50 Plus Computer Learning Center, formerly known as the Palatine SeniorNet Learning Center, opened in April, 1995, through the sponsorship of the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council. It was established to teach computer skills to adults, 50 and over, in an understandable, enjoyable and friendly way. Since opening, over 5,000 class participants have taken advantage of the program.

Taught by all volunteers, the center uses PC compatible computers, with Windows 7 and MS Office 2007, software for teaching word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, etc. Training classes are open to everyone regardless of residency and age, but are focused on those 50 years old and older. You do not have to live in Palatine or belong to the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council to attend classes.

Classes start Monday, Feb. 7, at a classroom in District 15 Administrative Office, 580 N. First Bank Drive, Palatine. The classroom has 10 computers and class will be conducted by an experienced teacher and two or three coaches. Registration begins 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Palatine Township Senior Citizen Center, 505 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, or by registration form obtained by previously arranged e-mail or phone: (847) 991-1112.
