Challenges gone: Hayes and Scaletta stay on Arlington Hts. ballot
The challenge to one Arlington Heights trustee's petition for re-election was withdrawn, and the other was rejected Friday by the village's Municipal Officers Electoral Board.
Thomas Hayes and John Scaletta are seeking re-election to the Arlington Heights Village Board on April 5.
There are five candidates for four trustee seats. The other candidates are Carol Blackwood, who was appointed to the board; Bruce Green, chairman of the plan commission; and Mike Sidor, who is making his second run for the office.
The objection to Hayes' candidacy was withdrawn during the hearing by Keith A. Moens, who filed the challenges along with Jim Elgas. Hayes told the board he collected most of his signatures personally, Mayor Arlene Mulder said Monday.
The board rejected the objection against John Scaletta, saying because it did not list Moens' and Elgas's addresses, it was itself a violation of the Illinois Election Code.
Also, one complaint involving “signature discrepancies with voter registration” did not state fully the nature of the objections, the board ruled.
Moens could not be reached for comment Monday.
When queried previously about the challenges, Moens referred a questioner to his blog. On Friday he said in the blog that his request that Mulder and Trustee Thomas Stengren not serve on the board because they have a conflict of interest was rejected.
The third member of the board is Edwina Corso, village clerk.
