Winter rock festival
The annual Tomorrow Never Knows rock festival takes place this week at three venerable Chicago venues: Schuba's Tavern, Lincoln Hall and Metro. The festival highlights a mix of local and national acts who've generated buzz but haven't yet broken out onto the big summer festival circuit. Among the bands playing this weekend: The Concretes (9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Schuba's), Tanlines (9 p.m. Saturday at Metro) and Little Dragon (9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Lincoln Hall). This is a great opportunity to sample some new rock sounds.

Carrying ‘The Torch'
Guitar hero Ronnie Baker Brooks, son of blues legend Lonnie Brooks, has turned heads by adding elements of contemporary funk and hip-hop to traditional blues. He'll be performing songs from his latest record, “The Torch.”
