Social Security not related to deficit

I am tired of those running for office saying they will reduce the budget deficit and in the same breath mention Social Security.

They are all doing it with the deliberate intent of deceiving voters. It’s a good sound bite, and most voters are too busy managing their family affairs to investigate the facts.

Attention all voters. Social Security is a trust fund not included in the budget nor included in the deficit. It has never contributed to the deficit like some people you voted for would like you to believe.

Yes, the government has borrowed from the fund replacing the money with guaranteed U.S. government bonds. This contributes to the long-term deficit only when some of these bonds may need to be redeemed.

Are these politicians saying they do not want to redeem these bonds backed by the good faith of the U.S. government? I wonder what China would say about that while holding hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. bonds?
