Tea party sure works the system well

Tea-party favorite Christine O’Donnell may not be a witch but she may well be a crook. A federal investigation is underway to determine whether or not Ms. O’Donnell misappropriated campaign funds for personal use. Granted, the alleged misuse was fairly pedestrian — rent payments, gas and even bowling paid for with campaign contributions — but fraud is fraud. But this is a small irritation.

The real story is how some conservative zealots have co-opted telegenic spokespeople like Ms. O’Donnell to carry their tainted political water. It is an amazing phenomenon. While it’s likely that Ms. O’Donnell will be thoroughly discredited, it’s just as likely that she will land a cable TV or radio gig where she’ll have an even bigger bullhorn to broadcast her nonsense.

Got to hand it to the right wing, they have a knack for finding just the right surrogates to meet their objectives.
