Constitution is the only sacred text
After reading Mr. Van Dine's theological diatribe in the Jan. 2 Daily Herald, I wondered if he thinks he's living in the Vatican or the United States of America.
The people in this country, and I mean all the people in this country, are governed by the laws set forth in the Constitution, and not by the dictums of the King James version of the Bible. Every elected official up to the Oval Office, all soldiers of this country and naturalized citizens among others, swear to uphold it.
It affords us all equal protection under the law, regardless of religious beliefs or convictions. If the Mr. Van Dines of this country want to run their lives, and attempt to ruin the lives of others, based on selective quoting from either Testament, they have every right to do so.
But for the rest of us, we create our laws based on the only sacred text that matters in this great land: the Constitution of the United States and nothing else.
