Random pellet shots target Lake County cars, buses

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Lake County police and schools are taking precautions after BBs or pellets struck several car and bus windows.

Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land says it appears BB or pellet guns are being shot at passing vehicles.

Melissa Hilty of Porter County told police she was traveling east of Crown Point on Wednesday afternoon when her driver's side window suddenly shattered.

Police say shots also struck windows of a school bus and a car in the same area near Interstate 65. Nobody was injured in any of those incidents, but a driver reported arm pain after a shot shattered a window in his vehicle in the same area Sunday.

Personnel Director John Williams says the Crown Point Community Schools will divert school buses from the area at least through Friday.
