DuPage seniors can defer property taxes
A DuPage County program allows qualified seniors, 65 and older, to defer their property taxes until they sell their home. The application process to participate in the program began Thursday.
“To qualify, the applicant's household income cannot exceed $50,000,” DuPage County Treasurer Gwen Henry said. “Additionally, the property must be used exclusively for residential purposes. The deferral is treated as a loan and accrues 6 percent simple interest until paid.”
Henry said her office is working with local churches and other organizations to make seniors aware of the program. Application forms automatically will be mailed to last year's participants on Jan. 10.
For a copy of the application, visit the treasurer's website at www.dupageco.org/treasurer or call (630) 407-5900. The application period closes March 1.
