Des Plaines launches easy way to report potholes

Des Plaines residents irked by potholes and other road work issues can now instantly report them to the city by texting or e-mailing the problem location to speed up repairs.

The “DP Road Rescue” initiative, launched by 3rd Ward Alderman Matt Bogusz, aims to streamline road repair requests and cut through the red tape of having to communicate with multiple government agencies such as the city of Des Plaines, Maine Township, Cook County, or the state.

“Residents are the city's first line of defense when finding potholes during the winter freeze and thaw season,” Bogusz said in his 3rd Ward newsletter to residents. “DP Road Rescue makes identifying, reporting, and following-up on complaints simple. Most of us drive with cell phones in our pockets. Next time you spot a pothole, safely park your car and text a description and location of the problem to (847) 306-9273. You will receive a text confirming receipt and after the pothole has been filled.”

Online requests may be made through the website DPRoadRescue.org.

Bogusz beta-tested the program in late 2010 with a number of 3rd Ward residents.
