Food packed in Hoffman Estates to feed Haiti

Bright Hope, a Hoffman Estates-based charity, will host a food packing event from Jan. 12-15 at the Bright Hope Center to pack food for 212,000 meals for children in 17 Haitian schools. Bright Hope needs 1,000 volunteers to pack food over the four days.

Without food, hungry schoolchildren are unable to learn. By providing a fortified rice, protein, and vegetable meal, these children can focus on their education instead of fighting the pain of hunger.

There are 10 sessions to choose from, with each lasting 2 hours. A freewill offering will be collected during each food packing event to help provide for the cost of the food.

A special candlelight memorial service will be held immediately after the Wednesday, Jan. 12, session to commemorate the anniversary of the devastating Haiti earthquake.

“We have a real, hands-on effort happening right here in Hoffman Estates that will give our volunteers a chance to directly feed hungry children in Haiti,” states Craig Dyer, president of Bright Hope. “With the help of volunteers, no child in this program will have to go hungry,” he added.
