Police: Teens fled burglarized Gurnee home
Two North Chicago teens were arrested Sunday night after police say they spotted them leaving the scene of a Gurnee home burglary.
A neighbor on the 3400 block of Country Club Avenue called police at 10:49 p.m. Sunday after witnessing the teens walk to up the front door of a house on the block, eventually make their way through a side door, run out to a vehicle and drive off, according to police.
A Gurnee Police officer spotted the reported older model tan Mercury Sable at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Country Club Avenue and pulled the teens over, according to police.
Officers investigated the reported burglarized house and found a side door with damage to the frame, damage to copper tubing on the air conditioner, damage on the furnace and damage to a bathroom wall, police said.
The 16-year-old and 15-year-old boys were each charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage to property, according to police.
The 16-year-old was also charged with driving without a license, obstructing identification, driving without headlights and a loud muffler.
Witnesses told police they were alarmed when they saw the car turn around in a driveway on Country Club and saw the same car10 minutes later driving down the block and stop.
Both teens were released to their parents after appearing in Lake County Juvenile Court.
