Learn about remodeling at free winter classes in Elgin

If one of your New Year resolutions is to do some home remodeling, a good place to start is taking some classes at ReStore, 800 N. State St. (Route 31), Elgin.

Rich Cowgill, vice president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry of Greater Chicagoland, is back at Habitat ReStore to lend his expertise on a wide array of home improvement topics and provide a fun and interactive experience.

ReStore's free winter classes start up Saturday, Jan. 8. The classes will be held at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday from January to April.

Cowgill began conducting classes at ReStore in November 2007. The classes have been very popular and often fill up fast. Whether you are a novice or experienced remodeler, you will be provided a wealth of information and tips to help you make the right choices for your home.

To sign up for a workshop, visit restoreelgin.org, call (847) 742-9905 or stop in at ReStore during open hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

On Jan. 8, the topic will be “Drywall Installation, Repair, Taping and Mudding Techniques.” On Feb. 12, he will discuss kitchen cabinet and furniture refinishing and repair. On March 12, learn how to “Reclaim Your Basement: Dealing with Moisture, Flooring Options and More.” On April 9, he will discuss “Choosing and Installing Windows, Including Flashing, Insulation, and Moisture Barriers.”
