Indiana governor win fiscal responsibility award

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is one of three winners of a new award for responsible financial stewardship and fiscal discipline in government.

The first ever "Fiscy Awards" will be presented this week to Daniels, Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. The awards are given by a committee that includes officials from the Comeback America Initiative, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and the Concord Coalition.

Daniels says the people of Indiana brought the results that earned the award by "insisting on policies of prudence and economy." He says he'll accept the award in their name.

Daniels has cut millions of dollars from Indiana's state budget in recent years as revenues fell below expectations.
