Hundreds honor Rerum Novarum recipients

Arlington Heights resident Chris Krupa, an institutional sales specialist with Northern Trust, celebrates with Beverly resident Alix Youpel with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney at the recent 20th annual "Seminary Salute to Labor, Business and Government."

This year's recipients of 2010 Rerum Novarum Awards are Thomas Ricketts, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Incapital LLC, representing the business sector; James Sweeney, president/ business manager of Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, as the labor honoree; and former Attorney General of the State of Illinois Jim Ryan, as the government representative. In addition, Rev. James Presta, S.T.D., Associate Dean of Formation at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary who previously served as Rector-President at St. Joseph's Seminary on the Loyola University campus, also received a special honorary Rerum Novarum Award.

The Rerum Novarum Awards, presented by St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University of Chicago, honor men and women in labor, business, and government who have proven outstanding in their support of the following ideals: respect for the dignity of the human being and human labor, the right to organize and the right to a living wage.
