Sugar Grove man dies in head-on crash
A 27-year-old Sugar Grove man died Monday morning after his car crashed head on into another car on Corron Road west of Elgin, police said.
James M. Carroll, 27, was pronounced dead at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, according to a news release.
The other driver, Jeremy G. Lindsay, 30, of the 1500 block of Millbrook Lane, Algonquin, was taken to the same hospital where he was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
At 6:45 a.m., Kane County Sheriff deputies responded to the accident on Corron Road, south of Bowes Road, in unincorporated Plato Township.
Police determined Carroll had been heading north on Corron in his 2010 Audi when it left the roadway and re-entered the road, crossed the center line and went into the southbound lane of traffic. That was when he ran into Lindsay, who was driving a 2010 Mitsubishi, police said.
Lindsay works for the Kane County Department of Transportation but was not driving a county vehicle, said Lt. Pat Gengler.
Carroll worked at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Both men were on their way to work at the time of the accident and were alone in their cars, Gengler said.
The Kane County Coroner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy on Carroll, but did not have information available on when it or a toxicology test would occur.
Police blocked the intersection from 6:45 a.m. until 10 a.m. and did not issue citations in the crash. They say it does not appear drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
