Milwaukee area mall closes following disturbance
WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Some shoppers at a suburban Milwaukee mall say they were temporarily locked behind security gates when dozens of rowdy young people created a disturbance, causing the mall to close early.
Some of the stores at Mayfair Mall brought down their gates as the teens became unruly. Witnesses say the young people were shouting and running through the Wauwatosa (wah-wah-TOH'-sah) shopping center Sunday evening. Mannequins and racks of clothes were knocked over at the Boston Store entrance.
Mall general manager Steve Smith said in a statement that no one was injured by the disturbance. Smith says the behavior by a group of young people was isolated.
Laura Hughes tells the Journal Sentinel she was shopping when she heard screaming and saw security guards and police officers chasing some young people.
