Long-serving Illinois Supreme Court clerk retires

SPRINGFIELD — The longest-ever serving clerk of the Illinois Supreme Court is retiring after 28 years in the position.

Authorities with the Illinois Supreme Court say clerk Juleann Hornyak officially retires on Monday after first taking her job in 1982.

That means Hornyak won't be at her Springfield office heading her 12-member staff when Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride convenes the state's high court for a new term on Jan. 11. Kilbride says Hornyak will be missed.

Kilbride calls Hornyak's skills "invaluable" and says she has "served the court with distinction." She has moved hundreds of thousands of legal filings through the high court over her tenure.

Hornyak will be replaced by Carolyn Taft Grosboll, whose father also was an Illinois Supreme Court clerk.
