Des Plaines hearing on objections continued

A hearing on objections filed to the candidacies of three 6th Ward aldermanic hopefuls in Des Plaines has been continued until Wednesday.

The three-member Des Plaines Electoral Board — Mayor Marty Moylan, City Clerk Gloria Ludwig and 8th Ward Alderwoman Rosemary Argus — heard Monday from the objector, Ted Roediger of Des Plaines, and two of the candidates whose petitions he questioned, Mario Palacios and Richard Hissong.

Candidate Cliff Matthews was not present at Monday's hearing to respond to the objections raised to his candidacy. A fourth candidate for the 6th Ward seat, incumbent Alderman Mark Walsten, has no objectors.

Roediger, chairman of the Citizens for Mark Walsten campaign, questioned minor irregularities with the other three candidates' petitions including the validity of signatures of registered voters. The signatures will be verified with the Cook County Clerk's Office sometime Tuesday, Ludwig said.

The hearing will resume at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Room 102 of Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner St. The electoral board will then determine whether Palacios, Hissong and Matthews will remain on the April 5 consolidated election ballot.
