Decatur voters to face blank ballot
DECATUR, Ill. — Voters in Decatur will be faced with a blank ballot next month.
An empty oval and a blank line are all voters will see for the Feb. 22 primary for Decatur's City Council, which is the only race on the ballot.
That's because Adam Brown resigned from the city council after he won a seat in the Illinois House. Brown's resignation came after the official filing period so city council candidates must be write-ins.
Six people have filed their intent to be a write-in.
Macon County Clerk Steve Bean says only votes for those candidates will be counted, and those ballots will have to be counted by hand. Bean says the cost of conducting the primary could run as high as $80,000.
