'Cape' Fear
‘Cape' fear
NBC continues to look to cheesy new superheroes to save it from itself with the debut of “The Cape” at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, on WMAQ Channel 5. The two-hour premiere will be rerun at 8 p.m. Monday on its way to becoming a weekly hourlong series the following Monday, Jan. 17.
Onion ‘Dome'
The newspaper lampoon The Onion is branching out to TV, and the ESPN “SportsCenter” takeoff “Onion SportsDome” launches at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, on Comedy Central. The Onion also has a TV newscast lampoon coming later in the month on the Independent Film Channel.
The Big Bridges
Hot from his banner year with an Oscar and a couple of ballyhooed new films during the holiday season, Jeff Bridges gets the PBS “American Masters” treatment with the new documentary “The Dude Abides,” debuting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, on Channel 11. The title, of course, refers to his cult movie with the Coen brothers, “The Big Lebowski.”
Waste Watcher: Back to the ‘Grind'
What better way to start the Waste Watcher year than with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's splatter fest “Grindhouse?” Tarantino's “Death Proof” portion of the double feature runs at 7 p.m. today on Spike, immediately followed by Rodriguez's “Planet Terror.” Rose McGowan straddles both parts to provide a little continuity.
